Dr Kate Gilliver coordinates ‘dogsbody’ volunteers for SARDA South Wales. About six years ago she had an accident while walking in the Cairngorms and had to be rescued by a search and rescue team that was on exercise nearby.
“I lost my footing, just slipped, fell over and broke my fall with my head and nose,” she said. “It can happen to anybody, anywhere and, you know, if you do it on the street, an ambulance can come along – but if you’re doing it in the mountains then you may well need professional help.”
The experience inspired her to start volunteering with SARDA.
